Romance Novel

The appeal of the romance novel
Generations of women from all over the world have enjoyed many hours of fantasy with the romance novel. The romance novel has remained so popular because of the power it has to take the reader into a kind of perfect world with a man who worships her and sweeps her off her feet. There is not a culture on earth that has not had a famous romance novel or two pass from one set of hands to another. The imagination can be a very powerful thing and when it is fueled by a good romance book, it can make one forget about all their troubles for a little while. And who among us doesn't need that every so often?

Romance novels generally have a heroine as the main character. A woman that represents "All Women" and to whom most readers can relate to. In the classic romance novel, the woman usually finds herself in some kind of hopeless situation of which she is a victim. Many of us can definitely relate to a woman who is relatively powerless in a certain situation, with seemingly no one to turn to. And it is at this moment in the romance books that a handsome stranger comes onto the scene just in time and saves the poor damsel from sure destruction. Of course this them leads to a flaming hot romance and eventually true love.

An even steamier theme of the romance novel is often about a woman who finds herself falling for the "wrong" man, someone she had no business being attracted to, let alone spending time with. She might even be a married woman whose husband is away or who does not give her what she needs to be happy. And so it is up to this other man to satisfy her- this again represents the image of a woman who many women can relate to. As women, we are able to see ourselves in these stories and go on romantic journeys that we would otherwise never even consider.
